Cafe du MondeOn a recent trip across country with wife and Penta Posse we evaluated restaurants on kid-friendly accomodations. Five kids can trash up an eatery in a hurry.
New Orleans, in a city where anything goes, kids can come. Cafe Du Monde was one of the most kid-friendly.
What child in any of us could turn down the beignets and the chicory- laced coffee?
Good news. The Wall Street Journal reports that the outdoor cafe opens today.

Yea! Cafe Du Monde was my favorite place when I visited New Orleans a few years ago.

Carol, we agree. The outdoor concrete flooring was easy to hose off -- not that it was necessary with our crowd -- but there seemed to be surpisingly little breakage with those big coffee mugs.

I could go on and on talking about Café Du Monde. I was born in New Orleans and we use to attend a church on Dauphine St. in the French Quarter back in the late 70’s. We use to spend the week of Mardi Gras at the church so my parent could feed and house 70 or so men that would come in every year to do street preaching. Boy I could do some blog posts about that. Thanks for the ideas. Back to Café Du Monde, there is just something about having hot beignets and a cold chocolate milk on a sultry New Orleans night that brings back a flood of memories that I can almost taste and feel. Sticky elbows from the damp sugar encrusted tables and who can forget the paper Café Du Monde hats.

gid, you are so right! Cafe du Monde is a true experience thru each of the senses. Even the sugar -- becoming a sticky mess -- as our Penta Posse did lab experiments with fluids and glucose and solids.
The New Orleans landmark deserves its own case study on branding.
I think your insights would be an outstanding start. Keep us posted on your posts.
