Were You Worried About Pluto?

November 1, 2005 | By Charmaine Yoest

They've discovered that Pluto has two more moons than we thought.

Which is very cool. But apparently, it's also a big relief to some people:

Just on a visceral level, the fact that Pluto has a whole suite of companions will make some people feel better," [Alan Stern of the Southwest Research Institute in Boulder, Colorado] said.

So call me unfeeling, but I just wasn't laying awake at night worrying about Pluto. . . were you?

Just wondering.

I lie awake wondering if Pluto is really a planet or an escapee from the Kyper Belt.

Barb hits it. There are those who would like to de-list Pluto from its place as a planet and put it into the category of "other orbiting debris." But orbiting moons make the case stronger in favor of keeping Pluto on the list.

Pluto gets no respect. It's the runt of the planetary system. This news will definitely make me sleep better tonight.

I think I'll preach on this Sunday - that way I can help all the rest of the people in the congregation who are losing sleep over this find rest.

I have to say that if it has multiple moons then that would put Pluto in the category planet. I know size and shape will be thrown in my face as to the markings of a true planet, but sometimes a man just has to make a stand. It is important that we debate this issues that matter deeply. Or something like that...

I'm not worried about Pluto, it's Goofy who gives me the willies.

Well Charmaine this just goes to show one of the top five rules of blogging. Work your tail off for hours on a post of incredible depth and international significance and nobody reads or comments. Take two minutes to throw up something silly and the world beats a path to your door, er, blog.

Well, David, exactly! Who knew such an interest in astronomy?

I have definitely decided to become an Astronoblogger!!

Stay tuned for my next super-enthralling post on, er, the mega-controversy surrounding Saturn!

Or was that Venus?
