The 570 guests entered on red carpeted steps at The Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium in Washington, DC.

Auditorium. With seven story Doric columns.

(Only in DC. I can image the approval process to build the building. The word "auditorium" appeared in the budget request. The blueprints had "cathedral" lines. This is how many sales presentations are delivered. Clever use of descriptions. Especially in Your Nation's Capital.)

No. Not this time. My excitement was sincere. Her son is the #3 pilot on the Blue Angels.

Charmaine said that I didn't have to congratulate her -- marveling at the honor and the danger --

The danger. That some 75 military jets are lost year each in accidents.

She didn't need to hear that.

She already knew.

A Blue Star mom.
